The Just Shall Live by Faith

"...the just shall live by faith." That is a profound statement. Having been justified by faith in Jesus' redeeming work, Christians now have a specific way to conduct their lives. Not because now you have the power to follow the rules but because Gods system, His kingdom, works by faith. If you want anything from God or want to do anything for Him, you gonna need some faith. That's just a fact of Christian life.

God has been working to get this point across to His people throughout history. When you read your Bible you see accounts of people who God blessed, people who God used. Noah, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph the list goes on but these all decided in themselves to believe God at His word and they accomplished great things. Faith in God being the determining factor.

So where does that leave all of us? We are learning to do what they all did. God has sent us a Helper in the Holy Spirit who explains to us what the Bible says and empowers us to do it. If we mess up there's grace (thought I forgot about grace didn't you?) Grace is everything that is good about God and He gives it to us freely. We can't earn it. We can't earn it (no typo, just had to say it twice). His plan all along was that His children would walk through life together with Him in faith.

In Exodus 19:6 God lays out His plan " shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." Roll that around in your head for a minute. The problem was His people rejected the idea of a personal relationship with Him and pushed it all off on Moses (Exodus 20:19). So, they got the law.

John 1:17 tells us that "the law came through Moses but grace came through Jesus." That's really good news since the law demands righteousness in order to obtain grace (that means you have to be perfect and we all failed that test a long time ago) but, Jesus offers us righteousness (right standing with God) just by believing in Him! Guess what? It's the ones He made righteousness who get the grace. I told you this was really good news.

So now when you read the 10 commandments back in Exodus you don't have to hear God yelling "THOU SHALT NOT..." you can say to yourself " I won't because I just don't want to." You have the power in you to do right and you have grace in case you mess up. Glory to God that's good news!

Live well,
